This is the first of five webinars by the ASCA Title IX Task Force to occur by July 31, 2024.
Webinar Description:
This webinar will explore a variety of considerations practitioners should make when revising their Title IX policies, including policy oversight, office structure, and grievance handling. It will delve into process choices, including policy documentation and differentiation of harassment and discrimination policies. The presenters will also discuss decision-making topics like evidentiary standards and non-live hearing options. The session will end with a Q&A segment.

Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of the webinar the attendees will be able to:
- Identify the oversight topics (e.g. where the policy should live, who should administer the policy, etc)
- Describe the different process models permitted under the updated Title IX regulations and articulate how those models can be implemented in practice.
- Rationalize some of the specific considerations that should be included in the policy.

Presenter Info:
Brian Glick, Ed.D. (he/him/his): Director, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Adelphi University
Dr. Brian M. Glick, (he/him/his) currently serves as the director of student conduct and community standards at Adelphi University, located in Garden City, New York. Previously, he served in student conduct positions at Northern Illinois University, and residence life positions at Southeast Missouri State University and Elmhurst College. Dr. Glick’s doctoral research established that the practice of student conduct, is a profession, as defined by published criteria. Glick earned a doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University, a master of science in college student personnel administration from the University of Central Arkansas, and a bachelor of arts in communication from Kansas State University. Brian also has a long history of involvement with the Association for Student Conduct Administration, including long-time service with the Public Policy Legislative Issues Committee, the Membership Engagement Committee, and the Equity and Inclusion Committee. Brian also currently serves on the ASCA Board of Directors.
Michael Fazi (he/him/his): Assistant Director, Title IX, Vanderbilt University
Michael Fazi is the Assistant Director of Vanderbilt's Title IX Office. In this role, he investigates reports of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and other alleged violations of Vanderbilt policy. Additionally, he helps manage the office's training initiative. Michael currently serves as the ASCA co-chair for the Members with/interested in JDs. Michael also serves on the ASCA Title IX Working Group, drafting and recommending best practices for student affairs professionals. Michael received his B.A. in Politics cum laude from the University of Dallas, his Master of Education in Higher Education from Merrimack College, and his Juris Doctorate cum laude from the University of New Hampshire School of Law. Prior to joining Vanderbilt, Michael worked in student conduct at Merrimack College and as a law clerk for the University System of New Hampshire.
Haley Hawthorne (she/her): Senior Conduct Services Coordinator, American Public University System
Haley Hawthorne is the Senior Conduct Services Coordinator in The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities at American Public University System. In addition to her duties as the conduct services coordinator, she serves as a Title IX Investigator, student advocate in the grievance process and is the conduct liaison on the University’s AI policy task force. She received her Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education from American Military University.
Carly Pariseau (she/her/hers): Associate Director for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution, Rochester Institute of Technology
Carly is the Associate Director for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution at Rochester Institute of Technology. In her role at RIT, Carly serves as the primary lead on all student conduct cases with possible Title IX or sexual misconduct violations and serves on the case management team. Additionally, she serves as a hearing officer for high-level student conduct cases, as well as Title IX and sexual misconduct cases. Prior to arriving at RIT, Carly was the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at Boston College and served on the Title IX steering committee and served on the administrative hearing board for high-level student conduct cases. Carly is currently pursuing her Ed.D.in Higher Education Leadership at Regis College.
Samuel Halligan (he/him): Equity and Title IX Investigator, Cornell University
Samuel Halligan is an Equity and Title IX investigator at Cornell University. In this role, he investigates Title IX policy violations that fall under the purview of students, faculty and staff. In this role Sam also investigates protected class discrimination and harassment. Prior to this role Sam served as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator at SUNY Cortland. Sam currently serves as the NY legislative representative for ASCA Region Ten. Sam received his Masters of Student College Personnel from Bowling Green State University.
Alyssa Veteto, M.Ed. (she/her/hers): Assistant Dean of Students, University of Houston
Alyssa Veteto, M.Ed. (she/her/hers) serves as the Assistant Dean of Students for Conduct and Policy at the University of Houston main campus. In her role, Ms. Veteto is a hearing officer for individual and student organization conduct proceedings and serves on the Sexual Misconduct Response Team, collaborating on investigations, proceedings, and sanctioning for Title IX, Sexual Misconduct, and Anti-Discrimination cases at the University. Previously, she served as a confidential resource in Sexual Misconduct/Title IX support services at Austin College, as well as in conduct and residence life roles at the University of Houston and Southern Methodist University. Ms. Veteto holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice Performance and a Master’s of Educational Leadership, specialized in Higher Education Policy Studies, both from SMU.
Kristi Patrickus, J.D.: Student Advocacy Program Attorney, University of Oregon
Kristi Patrickus is the Student Advocacy Program Attorney at the University of Oregon (UO). She graduated with Juris Doctorate from UO in 2021 and became a member of the Oregon State Bar and Missouri Bar Association shortly thereafter. During her time as a law student, Kristi worked in the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards where she performed numerous functions, including adjudicating conduct cases and administering sanctions. Kristi currently serves on various committees including the Student Conduct Advisory Committee at UO and the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Education Committee.
Kristi is the current co-chair of the Public Policy and Legislative Issues Committee and Conduct Professionals with JDs Committee within the ASCA. Kristi’s research on due process protections for students in university conduct systems is published in Volume 47 of the National Association of College and University Attorneys Journal of College and University Law.
