This is the fourth of five webinars by the ASCA Title IX Task Force to occur by July 31, 2024.

Webinar Description:

In this webinar, the presenters will review the 2024 Title IX Regulations and their impact on student organizations. This webinar will include informed practices for how to work Title IX and sexual misconduct cases involving student organizations, as well as a question and answer session following the presentation.

This webinar expands further on the information discussed during the free Title IX webinar that occurred on April 29, 2024.  If you would like to receive access to the webinar from April 29, 2024, please contact Josh Cutchens, Director of Member Experience & Operations, at asca@theasca.org.

Presenter Info:

Kristi Patrickus, J.D.: Student Advocacy Program Attorney, University of Oregon 

Kristi Patrickus is the Student Advocacy Program Attorney at the University of Oregon (UO). She graduated with Juris Doctorate from UO in 2021 and became a member of the Oregon State Bar and Missouri Bar Association shortly thereafter. During her time as a law student, Kristi worked in the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards where she performed numerous functions, including adjudicating conduct cases and administering sanctions. Kristi currently serves on various committees including the Student Conduct Advisory Committee at UO and the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Education Committee.

Kristi is the current co-chair of the Public Policy and Legislative Issues Committee and Conduct Professionals with JDs Committee within the ASCA. Kristi’s research on due process protections for students in university conduct systems is published in Volume 47 of the National Association of College and University Attorneys Journal of College and University Law.

Tiera Mason, M.Ed.: Student Affairs Investigator, Florida State University

Tiera Mason serves as a Student Affairs Investigator at Florida State University where her primary responsibilities involve responding to and investigating reports of student organization misconduct. While at FSU, Tiera has also worked in the Department of Student Conduct and Community Standards doing Title IX/Sexual Misconduct adjudication including serving as a decision maker for both Title IX and general conduct cases. Prior to FSU, Tiera served as an Assistant Dean/Title IX Coordinator at a small private liberal arts institution where her Title IX responsibilities included investigating and adjudicating reports of sexual misconduct, training faculty, staff, and students and amending/updating policy. She views student organization involvement as a central part of many students’ higher education experience and believes that helping students have these experiences as safely as possible is a priority. Tiera is currently involved as a member of the ASCA Public Policy and Legislative Issues Committee.

Carol Millie, M.A.: Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, Oregon State University

Carol Millie currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards at Oregon State University. With over 30 years of experience in higher education, Carol has extensive expertise in investigating, adjudicating, and resolving incidents of academic, behavioral, and student organizational misconduct, including Title IX cases. Carol is an accomplished student conduct administrator who possesses advanced knowledge, skills, and experience in the field.

Carol has been a dedicated trainer and workshop facilitator, educating students, faculty, staff, and partners in preventing, intervening, and resolving individual and organizational misconduct. Carol has also consulted for various fraternity and sorority governing councils and served as a chapter advisor for Pi Kappa Phi.

Carol has served as a Title IX investigator and decision-maker across multiple resolution models, including single-investigator, hearing board, live-hearing, and hybrid models. Amid continuous changes to Title IX regulations, Carol has led numerous campus task forces and work groups in, developing and drafting university policies, procedures, and initiatives to prevent and address sex discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence.

Carol holds a Master of Arts in Counseling and Educational Psychology with a concentration in College Student Development.
