This is the second of five webinars by the ASCA Title IX Task Force to occur by July 31, 2024.

Webinar Description:

This webinar will explore the updated Title IX regulations on pregnancy or related conditions through the practitioner's lens. Join our community as we discuss the updated regulations for supporting pregnant and parenting students, as well as requirements for providing notice and responsive services, space considerations, privacy protections, and reasonable academic adjustments. 

This webinar expands further on the information discussed during the free Title IX webinar that occurred on April 29, 2024.  If you would like to receive access to the webinar from April 29, 2024, please contact Josh Cutchens, Director of Member Experience & Operations, at asca@theasca.org.

Learning Outcomes:

At the conclusion of the webinar the attendees will be able to: 

  • Understand the updated definitions and requirements regarding pregnancy and related conditions under Title IX.

  • Articulate the needs of pregnant and parenting students and advocate for those needs within the University community.

  • Differentiate between accommodations under the ADA and reasonable academic adjustments for pregnancy and related conditions under Title IX.

Presenter Info:

Alyssa Veteto, M.Ed. (she/her/hers): Assistant Dean of Students, University of Houston

Alyssa Veteto, M.Ed. (she/her/hers) serves as the Assistant Dean of Students for Conduct and Policy at the University of Houston main campus. In her role, Ms. Veteto is a hearing officer for individual and student organization conduct proceedings and serves on the Sexual Misconduct Response Team, collaborating on investigations, proceedings, and sanctioning for Title IX, Sexual Misconduct, and Anti-Discrimination cases at the University. Previously, she served as a confidential resource in Sexual Misconduct/Title IX support services at Austin College, as well as in conduct and residence life roles at the University of Houston and Southern Methodist University. Ms. Veteto holds a Bachelor's Degree in Voice Performance and a Master's of Educational Leadership, specialized in Higher Education Policy Studies, both from SMU.

Susanne Walters, M.Ed. (she/her/hers): Assistant Dean of Students & Deputy Title IX Coordinator, State College of Florida

Susanne received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the University of South Florida in 1989 and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership and Workforce Development from Mississippi State University in 2019. She began her career as a child protective investigator in Florida and went on to become a forensic interviewer with the Child Protection Team of Sarasota, Florida. In 1997 Susanne became the first Victim Witness Specialist at the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse in Alexandria, VA. She later served as the ChildFirst™ Coordinator for the National Child Protection Training Center. In 2015, Susanne became the first Title IX/Student Life Advisor at State College of Florida. She went on to serve as the Coordinator of Student Support Services at SCF and is now the Assistant Dean of Students. Susanne has been a Deputy Title IX Coordinator at SCF for 8 years.

Dr. Jennifer Fulbright (she/her/hers): Director of Title IX, Hendrix College

As the current Director of Title IX and Title IX Coordinator at Hendrix College, Dr. Jennifer Fulbright provides protections and support to over 1,400 students and employees. She presently holds the position of Co-Chair for the ASCA Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Community of Practice. She has over 25 years of experience working with diverse populations including children and adults encountering the criminal justice or educational systems as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Tarrant County College, Victim Advocate with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Parole Officer, Child Protective Services Investigator, Civil Commitment Officer, Department Chair, and criminal justice instructor. Dr. Fulbright attended Trinity Valley Community College, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Sam Houston State University, Master of Science in Public Safety with a specialization in Criminal Justice from Capella University, a Doctorate in Criminal Justice from Capella University, and is also an Advanced Mediator and Arbitrator.

Kristi Patrickus, J.D.: Student Advocacy Program Attorney, University of Oregon 

Kristi Patrickus is the Student Advocacy Program Attorney at the University of Oregon (UO). She graduated with Juris Doctorate from UO in 2021 and became a member of the Oregon State Bar and Missouri Bar Association shortly thereafter. During her time as a law student, Kristi worked in the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards where she performed numerous functions, including adjudicating conduct cases and administering sanctions. Kristi currently serves on various committees including the Student Conduct Advisory Committee at UO and the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Education Committee.

Kristi is the current co-chair of the Public Policy and Legislative Issues Committee and Conduct Professionals with JDs Committee within the ASCA. Kristi’s research on due process protections for students in university conduct systems is published in Volume 47 of the National Association of College and University Attorneys Journal of College and University Law.
