Part of our Belonging on Campus Series! This webinar supports student conduct educators in understanding ADA requirements and adapting conduct processes to implement reasonable accommodations. Participants will assess current institutional practices, identify gaps, and discuss how to proactively address concerns to strengthen procedural fairness. This webinar is designed for professionals seeking practical, entry‑level guidance and knowledge.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will learn how to identify when and how accessibility-related accommodations should be applied throughout the student conduct process—including intake, emergency measures, investigation, informal resolution, hearings, outcomes, and administrative functions (aka paperwork and website)
  • Participants will discuss the practical strategies and learn how to operationalize reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities to ensure equitable participation.
  • Participants will learn and practice how to evaluate current hearing board and staff training content for Americans with Disabilities Act related awareness, implicit bias, and procedural fairness—especially when engaging students who have invisible disabilities.

Presenter Information & Bios:

Dr. Jesse Langer (He/Him/His)

Dr. Nikki Kogan (She/Her)

Dr. Nikki Kogan serves Florida Atlantic University as Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution. She holds a BA in Philosophy from Wittenberg University, an MS in Education in College Student Development and Administration from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, and an Ed.D. in Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Georgia. Her doctoral research examined student conduct educators’ knowledge and application of learning outcomes and assessment practices, reflecting her commitment to advancing the profession through meaningful evaluation of student learning.

Dr. Kogan’s professional passion centers on using student conduct processes as developmental tools that prioritize growth, accountability, and student success rather than punishment. She helps students understand the broader impact of their decisions on themselves and their campus communities. She is actively engaged with the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA), serving as Co‑Chair of the Assessment Committee, Region 8 Legislative Tracker for the Public Policy and Legislative Issues Committee, and Region 8 Legislative Liaison. Janelle Freire, M.Ed. (She/Her/Ella)

Janelle Freire serves as Assistant Director for Student Conduct at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. A proud two‑time FAU alumna, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education and her master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership. She is currently enrolled at FAU as a student, working toward her PhD in Higher Education Leadership. Janelle began her career at FAU in 2019 as a Graduate Assistant in the Dean of Students Office, where she discovered her passion for student affairs and supporting students through both challenges and opportunities. Since then, she has advanced into her current leadership role, continuing to serve the FAU community with dedication and care.

Originally aspiring to be a teacher, Janelle has always valued student growth and development and views the college years as a transformative period. She believes every interaction can make a lasting impact and is committed to ensuring students feel seen, heard, supported, and connected to the resources they need to succeed.
