Part of the ASCA Equity in Conduct Series! This presentation examines the intersection of race, gender, and power for Black women in academia, highlighting unspoken expectations and barriers. Grounded in Black feminist theory and research, it explores systemic challenges in student conduct and services, advocating for dismantling barriers to foster authenticity and success in their careers.

Presenter Information & Bios:

Dr. Bonnie Taylor (She/Hers) Dr. Bonnie J. Taylor is a knowledgeable student conduct, student affairs, and higher education administration consultant, with over 19 years of experience in developing leaders in the higher education space. She has a strong background in leadership development, coaching, team building, skill development, career planning, and strategic planning. Bonnie held leadership roles in a variety of senior level capacities in student conduct and student affairs, including Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct. 

Dr. Taylor’s experience includes student conduct administration, stabilizing departments through challenges and critical intersections of change; creating critical partnerships and shaping company culture; serving as an expert in crafting policy, procedure, and process for organization- wide systems; and streamlining systems and processes to increase efficacy. Bonnie has served in various capacities in ASCA leadership, including Secretary for the ASCA Board of Directors, Gehring Academy Chair, Student Conduct 301 faculty, Annual Conference Committee Logistics and Programming Chair,and various task forces. Danielle Woody, M.S. (She/Her/Hers) Danielle Woody currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices at Towson University in greater Baltimore, Maryland. In this role, she oversees student accountability operations and educates the campus community on university policies through a restorative lens. Danielle also co-chairs Towson’s Student Affairs Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, furthering her commitment to creating inclusive environments. Since 2011, Danielle has had a variety of experiences in higher education, including Student Conduct, Title IX, Housing & Residence Life, and Fraternity & Sorority Life. 

Danielle holds a Bachelor’s in Communications and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Southeast Missouri State University, and she is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at Frostburg State University. A dedicated ASCA member, Danielle has served as co-leader for the Women of Color Summit, on the 2021 Equity & Inclusion Task Force, as the 2020 Annual Conference Logistics Chair, the 2017 Professional Growth Chair, and in various other leadership and supporting roles, underscoring her commitment to ASCA and the field of Student Conduct. Hortense Rascoe, M.S. Hortense S. Rascoe is a Case Coordinator at George Mason University. Her experience includes student conduct administration, residence life, Title IX, EO, and ADA. Born in North Carolina, Hortense grew up in Virginia. She attended James Madison University as an undergraduate and University of Maryland College Park as a graduate. Hortense is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and enjoys spending free time baking, reading or hanging out with teenage son. Contact: hrascoe@gmu.edu
