Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will gain a better understanding of promising practices employed by various universities related to free speech incidents at college campuses.
- Participants will gain ideas regarding practical strategies to employ to effectively manage these types of incidents.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. Danny Shaha (He/Him) has served as an Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Student Affairs at Penn State University since 2017. Previously, he served as the Senior Director of Penn State’s Office of Student Conduct for seven years.
As AVP, Danny supervises the offices of Student Accountability and Conflict Response, Sexual Misconduct Reporting and Response, Student Care and Advocacy, Off Campus Student Support, Respondent Support, Student Legal Services, and World Campus Student Affairs, and provides functional supervision to the Directors of Student Affairs at Penn State’s 19 Commonwealth Campuses and its medical school and two law schools. He also co-chairs the University's Behavioral Threat Management Team, holds responsibility for the University’s response to student-related crises, and leads the University’s efforts related to incidents of free expression and campus disruption.
Danny previously worked at the College of William and Mary, Texas A&M, and The Ohio State University. He also served as a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In 2019, Danny completed a fellowship with the UCI Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement researching free speech on college campuses and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern Mississippi.
