Position Description
The University of Washington's Office of Community Standards & Student Conduct has an outstanding opportunity for a Respondent Resource and Conduct Specialist to join their team.
Community Standards & Student Conduct practices a holistic and developmental approach to student accountability and education, partners with campus stakeholders to provide leadership and support to the university community and promotes a safe and inclusive environment conducive to student success.
The Respondent Resource and Conduct Specialist will execute this mission by coordinating the development, implementation, and overall success of a respondent resource program for all three University of Washington campuses.
This program includes providing direct support services and process advocacy to students who are identified as respondents in Title IX and non-Title IX related conduct matters. This individual will spend significant time meeting with individuals who have been accused of a violation of the Student Conduct Code to offer compassion, support, and procedural guidance and referral to campus support services.
The Respondent Resource and Conduct Specialist has responsibility for investigating and adjudicating alleged violations of the Student Conduct Code, which occurs both on and off campus, and will adjudicate both academic and behavioral misconduct. This includes determining appropriate educational sanctions for students found responsible for violating the Student Conduct Code. The Respondent Resource and Conduct Specialist will have a high degree of contact with students and tri-campus partners.
Under the general strategic guidance of the Director of CSSC and the supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Care, the Respondent Resource and Conduct Specialist will serve as a member of a dynamic team which also includes the Associate Director of Student Conduct, Assistant Director of Student Care, Conduct Specialists, Hazing Prevention and Response Specialist, Program Assistant, and Graduate Student Assistants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Respondent Resource Program Development and Administration (45%)
- Coordinate the development, implementation, and overall success of the tri-campus Respondent Resource Program.
- Use data, tracking, and trend analysis to evaluate opportunities for growth and improvements of the Respondent Resource Program and supporting processes.
- Provide direct support services and process advocacy to students identified as respondents in Title IX and non-Title IX related conduct matters and identify appropriate campus resources for referral.
- Identify, train, and coach a diverse group of professionals across each campus to serve as Respondent Resource on an as-needed basis.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with campus partners/staff by collaborating and communicating frequently to stay up to date on the resources available to students.
- Develop educational outreach and marketing related to the Respondent Resource Program to keep faculty, staff, students, and other community partners informed.
- Remain current and trained on best practices, emerging strategies, and research at the local, state, federal and international levels supporting the reduction of threats to the campus community and connecting students to supports necessary to enable their success.
Investigating and Adjudicating Student Conduct Cases (35%)
- Participate in student conduct proceedings and aid students in preparation of relevant documentation as requested by respondents.
- Adjudicate student conduct matters for low-level behavioral and academic misconduct during high case volume periods for CSSC.
- Serve as a resource to support staff and faculty regarding student and classroom management issues by providing information regarding the Student Conduct Code.
Meeting with and Supporting Tri-Campus Student Respondents (15%)
- Partner with UW-Bothell and UW-Tacoma staff to support the Respondent Resource Program at all three campuses, identify and address unique considerations for UW-Bothell and UW-Tacoma students, and implement appropriate alterations.
- Coach tri-campus Conduct Officers regarding best practices and emerging trends for working with respondents.
Serving on Departmental or Divisional Committees (5%)
- Participate in departmental or divisional committees, work groups, and projects as needed and in consultation with direct supervisor.
Position Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years’ experience working with college students.
- Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Understanding of the trends in the field of student conduct and knowledge of student development theory and its application to student conduct administration.
- Commitment to equity and the creation of an inclusive campus.
- Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to work both independently and cooperatively within the department.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective partnerships between a variety of stakeholders.
- Multitasking and prioritization skills in a dynamic work environment.
- Daytime travel may be required to Bothell and Tacoma.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters Degree in Student Affairs, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
- Two to three years of work in a University level Student Conduct Office as a hearing officer.
- Knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, and other applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Experience working with faculty and an ability to navigate complex systems.
- Knowledge of student development theory and ability to translate into practice of student conduct administration.
- Experience adjudicating student conduct violations in either a University level setting or a Residence Life and Housing setting.
