Description

The Director of Student Conduct and Restorative Practices provides exemplary leadership and vision for the Lafayette College Code of Conduct System and Restorative Practices program. A successful director possesses strong leadership, organizational, collaborative, developmental, and project management experience. The director is a full-time, twelve-month, in-person, live-off position. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the director is responsible for administering the student accountability process, including adjudicating all non-academic violations, developing education programs to promote community awareness of the code of conduct, policies, and procedures that impact student engagement and development. With campus partners, the director facilitates restorative practices on campus, building understanding, healing, accountability, civil discourse, and dialogue. Effective leadership of professional staff and student leaders is paramount to the success of the conduct and restorative program as the department leads and coordinates significant strategic projects and activities.

Directs student conduct programs

  • Provide leadership for implementing the Lafayette College Code of Conduct, including interpreting and articulating it for campus constituents.

  • Investigate incidents that may result in disciplinary action related to students.

  • Participate in resolution of conduct and disciplinary matters for students and student organizations.

  • Recruit, select, cultivate, train, and support volunteers (staff, faculty, and students) to support the conduct and restorative practice programs, including serving as case administrators (staff only), conduct board members, and restorative practice facilitators.

  • Ensure the timely resolution of all reports.

  • Review Public Safety and Residence Life reports daily.

  • In collaboration with other offices/departments/divisions, plan and implement educational programming to proactively and reactively (through sanctioning and other measures) address student misconduct and concerning behavior.

  • Conduct proactive educational outreach efforts with students and student organizations to explain the conduct process, their rights and responsibilities in making informed decisions, and their understanding of the implications of those decisions. This includes developing, implementing, and evaluating advanced education programming and outreach initiatives designed to build a greater sense of community throughout the student body.

  • Conduct outreach efforts with students and student organizations related to alcohol and other drugs.

  • Create, implement, and maintain intentionally designed sanctions as appropriate to meet the needs of the student conduct process.

  • Coordinate robust assessment of all aspects of the Student Conduct program.

Directs student restorative practices

  • Facilitate group meetings for dialogue and accountability.

  • Create and manage a team of facilitators to implement restorative practices across the college.

  • Work cross-departmentally to embed restorative practices into residential and co- curricular programming.

Provides training and education to students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders concerning student conduct procedures, restorative practices, and issues

  • Recruit and select faculty members and students to serve on the Student Conduct Board.

  • Train case administrators and the Student Conduct Board.

  • Assist in developing training programs for all conduct boards and related committees.

  • Meets with student organizations to discuss and resolve issues related to behavior.

  • Conduct outreach efforts to students and organizations on the student conduct system and process.

  • Work with student organizations to develop internal processes for conduct resolution.

  • Handle and resolve student/parent inquiries associated with the student conduct system.

Provides record keeping, tracking, statistical reporting, and information management.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all student records in accordance with FERPA and the stipulations in the Student Code of Conduct.

  • Assists in producing reports, including federally-required reports and annual reports.

  • Maintain accurate conduct records.

  • Provides outreach and education related to conduct trends and statistics.

  • Assists in developing and executing appropriate assessment tools.

  • Stay current with literature and policies on student conduct best practices and compliance issues.

  • Contribute to the annual writing/updating/editing of all information related to the student conduct system that appears in College publications, including the Lafayette College Student Handbook.

  • Maintain compliance with all related laws (local, regional, state, and national).

Safety and Security and Emergency Response:

  • Respond to emergencies across campus as needed.

  • Develop an effective working relationship with the Office of Public Safety, the Counseling Center, and other Student Life staff to respond to crises.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation.

  • Serve on the Student Support and Intervention Team, Behavior Intervention Team, and other institutional committees as determined by the Dean of Students and Vice President of Campus Life.

Administrative/Other

  • Represent the department on various campus-wide committees.

  • Support other Student Life projects as assigned and needed.
