Position Description

The Coordinator for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution is responsible for the resolution (i.e., investigating and adjudicating) of incident reports regarding alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct by students, recognized student organizations, and student groups which may involve hazing, non-Title IX student misconduct, and Title IX cases.  The coordinator also assists in developing and executing a conflict resolution program as well as creating and following up on sanctions.  

1.    Investigate alleged policy violations by students, recognized student organizations, and student groups in an equitable, impartial, prompt, and thorough manner by reviewing initial reports and gathering additional information to determine if, using the preponderance of the evidence standard, a policy violation occurred. Investigations will likely include identifying and interviewing relevant parties; identifying, gathering, and assessing/analyzing information pertinent to the investigation; applying relevant policies; writing investigatory reports; and making findings of fact for assigned cases. The coordinator may serve as the decision-maker for cases via the formal resolution process when a hearing is requested.

2.    Develop, execute, and track the timely completion of sanctions imposed upon students, recognized student organization, and student groups found to have violated University policies.

3.    Assist with designing, implementing, and assessing a conflict resolution program that includes services such as mediation, conflict coaching, facilitated dialogue, and restorative justice circles to help create a safe, just, and peaceful community.  

4.    Respond to student emergencies and provide crisis intervention and management as needed. This function will involve serving in the rotations for the Office of the Dean of Students’ Drop-In and Dean on Duty on-call programs as well as participating as a member of the Expressive Event Team.

5.    Provide programming to the campus community on topics related to behavioral expectations and reporting mechanisms as well as assist with training other conduct administrators. Serve as a resource to students, parents/families, and faculty/staff regarding conduct matters as well as student issues/concerns and emergency response protocols.

6.    May directly or indirectly supervise assigned graduate interns and practicum students working in the Office of the Dean of Students.

7.    Participate and represent the University, division, and department on committees and at functions.  Provide assistance and support to the Office of the Dean of Students and complete other duties as assigned.  

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Guidance and/or Counseling, Social Work or related field or a Juris Doctorate preferred.

  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience either full-time or as a graduate assistant investigating and/or adjudicating student conduct cases within a post-secondary or K-12 educational setting or within a setting in which civil rights investigations were conducted.

The following experience is preferred:

  • Experience working in Residence Life, Student Conduct, and/or Fraternity & Sorority Life

  • Experience in applying conflict coaching, conflict resolution, restorative justice, facilitated dialogue, mediation or similar processes to a variety of higher education settings

  • Experience conducting student organization/student group investigations

  • Experiencing conducting hazing investigations

  • Experience with assessing/evaluating student learning outcomes

  • Knowledge of case management system software (e.g., Maxient)

  • Supervision of students or staff members

  • Knowledge of civil rights laws including Title IX, federal and state laws and policies

  • Experience interpreting or enforcing policies

  • Experience with crisis response/management
