Position Description

The Assistant Director, Student Accountability and Support assists in the coordination and administration of the student conduct process under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students, Student Accountability and Support. This position assists in administering policies and procedures of the conduct process, offers alternative resolutions, engages students in developmentally appropriate conversations to address and resolve student conduct matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages complex investigations of reports of misconduct for individual students and student organizations, including interviewing individuals and writing investigative reports. This work requires the collaboration with staff in the Ethics and Compliance office, the hazing investigation team, faculty, staff, and advisors, and inter/national partners when appropriate and ensuring cases are completed respectfully and promptly and in compliance with organization rules, regulations and practices.

  • Develops comprehensive investigation plans and utilizing effective investigation knowledge and experience to collect, analyze and synthesize information and evidence from diverse sources including interviews, digital records, documentation and more.

  • Facilitates preliminary investigatory actions with students and student organizations serving as a hearing officer and representing the university in formal conduct procedures.

  • Reviews and maintains the confidentiality of student records in compliance with record retention, FERPA, HIPAA and other rules and regulations.  Utilizes Maxient and other programs to support data retention and security.

  • Partners with Residential Life to build collaborative relationships attending meetings, identifying opportunities for improvement and developing training where necessary.

  • Engages in the outreach and education for students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members. Partnering with marketing and communications staff to create resources to raise awareness of services and present informational and educational programs to a variety of constituents to explain services, raise awareness, and seek collaborative opportunities.

  • Impacts department, division and University decisions by researching, compiling, and evaluating information from data systems to identify, evaluate, and report on trends and areas of concern for issues spanning from daily office practices and operations to broader trends related to student wellbeing and success.

  • Leverages professional development opportunities through memberships, conferences, and other educational resources to enhance personal and departmental understanding of best practices, applicable case law, and the ever-changing landscape of student behavior and the impact on student success.

  • Contributes to the overall success of the Office of Student Accountability and Support by performing other duties assigned by the Assistant Dean of Students.

Position Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.

Education and experience preferred for this role include:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Compliance or related field.

  • Experience working in student conduct, judicial affairs, or a related area within higher education.

  • Experience conducting investigations, preferably in a university setting.

  • Strong investigative skills, including the ability to conduct thorough interviews, analyze evidence, and write comprehensive reports.

  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to engage students in constructive and educational conversations.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • 5 years as preferred experience

Salary Range: $51,875 - $70,000 annually
