When ICE Comes to Campus: Supporting Students During Immigration Enforcement Surges Webinar

Part of our Belonging on Campus Series! This session will provide higher education professionals with critical information about what ICE and Border Patrol enforcement looks like in practice, how it impacts students and campus operations, and what institutions can do to support affected students. Attendees will hear accounts of the human impact of these actions and learn practical strategies for institutional response.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the immediate and cascading impacts of ICE and Border Patrol enforcement operations on campus communities, particularly on immigrant, international, Latino, Asian, and Somali student populations.
  • Understand the immediate and cascading impacts of ICE and Border Patrol enforcement operations on faculty and staff of color.
  • Identify institutional and support strategies to help students who are afraid to come to campus due to immigration enforcement actions.
  • Develop informed expectations and response plans for when ICE and Border Patrol enforcement surges occur on campus and in their communities.
  • Recognize the range of institutional responses to ICE cooperation, from sanctuary approaches to compliance models (e.g., Florida institutions), and their implications for student support.

Presenter Information & Bio:

Dr. Jesse Langer (He/Him/His)

Dr. Langer has served as an Assistant Dean of Students at the University of St. Thomas for nearly 10 years. Before that, he served as an Academic Advisor in the Opus College of Business at St. Thomas. Dr. Langer served as the ASCA Region 4 co-chair from 2023-2025. Contact: jjlanger1@stthomas.edu
