Part of the ASCA Equity in Conduct Series! We will explore the impact of relying on discipline as a means of control, and identify and grapple with the power that conduct professionals hold. We will reflect on personal values and consider a framework for ethical decision-making in times when we are not aligned with actions we are directed to take.

Learning Outcomes:

Presenter Information & Bios:

Reese Havlatka (She/Hers) Reese serves the Berkeley Division of Student Affairs as the Independent Hearing Officer and the Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Hearing Coordinator. She has attended and worked at public schools for her entire life. Reese is a community organizer, a proud parent, a lifelong choral singer, and voracious reader. One of her greatest professional accomplishments was quitting her dream job because it ultimately did not align with her personal values. Contact: reesehav@berkeley.edu

Becca Lopez (She/Her/Hers) Becca Lopez serves as Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Center for Student Conduct at the University of California, Berkeley.  She has worked in student conduct and adjacent work for over 16 years, having experience at small private institutions and large public universities.  She cares deeply about fairness, advocates for the educational goals of accountability and grapples regularly with the power dynamics of conduct processes.
